Severomoravské vodovody a kanalizace Ostrava a.s.

Severomoravské vodovody a kanalizace Ostrava has been operating as a joint-stock company since 1992. It was privatised as a mixed joint-stock company: it is both the owner and operator of the infrastructure assets. The shareholders were 184 municipalities from the territory where SmVak Ostrava was providing its services. In May 1999 the shareholders sold the SmVaK Ostrava shares to foreign investors.

Now, the majority shareholder is AQUALIA CZECH S.L. that owns 98.68 % of voting rights in SmVak Ostrava. It is a member of FCC Group (Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A.) that operates mostly in construction business and communal services.

The core business of SmVaK Ostrava a.s. is production and supply of drinking water as well as discharge and treatment of wastewater. SmVaK Ostrava operates in following districts: Frýdek-Místek, Karviná, Nový Jičín and Opava. It also supplies water to Ostrava, Hlučín, Studénka and some small towns. Drinking water is also supplied to the Přerov region and to the border area in Poland. SmVak Ostrava operates sewage networks, a wastewater treatment plant in Bruntál and water networks owned by the Association of Syrákov Municipalities in the Region of Zlín.

Ostrava Area Water Network (”OOV”) is the basic water production and distribution system for supplies of drinking water in the Moravian-Silesian Region. This is a backbone water supply system for continuous and reliable supplies of top quality drinking water to more than one million of people. There are three plants that treat surface water from lakes. The total capacity is 5,360 litres per second. The total length of water pipelines is 497 km. The pipelines in the system are mostly made from steel, with the profiles ranging from DN 300 mm to DN 1600 mm. There are 125 water reservoirs with the total capacity of 303,010 m33.

SmVaK Ostrava introduced the Integrated Quality Management System pursuant to following standards:

  • ČSN EN ISO 14001:2005 (Environmental Management System)
  • ČSN OHSAS 18001:2008 (Occupational Health and Safety Administration Management System)
